Problems with display

I'll try to be curt, since the moderators of this board seem to have a somewhat odd sense of what profanity is (maybe even the word profanity will stop the message?).

I have problems with my display. It gets jittery after a few minutes, and something that looks like interference lines start traversing the display from bottom right to top left. This phenomenon comes and goes, but lately has become so severe that my laptop is rendered useless.

I have a Dell Latitude C640, and I have disassembaled/assembled the whole laptop to check for loose connectors. I have not disassembled the LCD.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this?

If I am not misunderstanding, I have this experiences before as some Internet Explorer related problem (Internet bar, Yahoo bar for internet explorer) will cause in that issues, just remove that program...

I had the same problem and after a long search found the source of the problem. The screen behaves badly because Dell has placed the plastic Dell logo in the lcd back with 3 plastic pins. These pins press directly on the flatt cable in the ltd deck behind the screen. Great production design to think of such.

When you place 2 small pieces of foam  on both sides of the cable the problem is resolved. Nevertheless I found out that Dell in most of these cases replaces the whole screen and charges it to the customer. But the problem is actually caused by the fact that the deck of the laptop becomes softer after some time and then comes closer to the back of the screen thus causing the faltcable to be pressed by these plastic pins.

This is the whole case. Dell has just *** up by making the cover of the ltd. The shell gets soft and then the problems start. I am pretty sure they know this at Dell, but just do not want to change it for some reason. most likely because it cost money, strange for a pro laptop series.

But you are right to be carefull opening the ltd display hood, use a small ===driver and do not push to hard.

The reason the lid gets so hot is because the flat cable enters the top cover there and also there Dell made a huge mistake by using the alluminium sink balde in a totally wrong way. th eflat cable is connected to the top with a metal screw instead of a plastic clip and this metal screw is causing alll the hassle. I replaced the screw with a plastic pin, no heat and problem resolved.

The tip on the flatcable was perfect. I therefore ventured to open the LCD cover, and found they have tried a new hack on this Latitude, since they have moved the cable to the left of the DELL logo connector, and have made this huge casing around it. The casing however partly covers the flatcable.

I don't know if this is the cause to the problem yet, I just know that taking the cover off solved everything. The LCD is perfect, not a single glitch. So now I have to start testing. The lower right corner is increadibly hot, so this might also create problems. I'll report later what I find out.

Thanks for the help, taking off that LCD cover was no joke. But since others had succeeded without destroying their laptop, I ventured to brake it open and Oh! joy! For those wondering, the LCD cover is not just held together by those metal things usually used for such things (the word I would use is banned on this forum), but it also has plastick click-on clips. To get it open without wrecking anything, you carefully use a *****driver and press into the gap and follow the gap around the casing clicking off each click-on connector. But be careful not to use to much force, you might snap off and brake the plastic.
