Problems with Studio 1747's HDMI

I've had my Studio 1747 for a few weeks now and I've noticed that there's just no way i can extend or duplicate my computer's monitor on any HDTV in my house while using the HDMI connection. I've tried VGA and it works like a charm, but whenever I try to use the HDMI connection, I get no audio or video on any of my HDTV's. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just that there's a VERY limited list of compatible HDTV's?

Well DELL, it's been more than a year now and i've still haven't heard any news on you guys fixing this issue with the HDMI and DVI ports not showing any signs of life when you plug them to an HDTV. Was my more than $2000 investment really that unimportant to you guys, or is it that you guys just don't know how to fix this issue? Either ways, as consumers that we all are, i at least expected a small answer from you guys saying SOMETHING about this issue, but i guess me and everybody with this issue were wrong... on my behalf, don't expect me to buy another DELL system, on theirs, well, it's their decisions. Thanks for the "awesome support".

I'm putting a lot more info to see if Dell helps us with this one...

I have a fully updated and trouble-shot Dell Studio 1747 Touch:

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

Intel's QM-720(quad)

8GB DDR3 RAM 1333

ATI RADEON HD 4650 Mobile

Ever since I received my laptop in the mail, i haven't been able to even once, use my HDMI port to watch anything, no audio also. This is something that has forced me to use VGA and that's something i really hate 'cause i also have to use another cable in order to transfer my audio to external sources while the HDMI port can transfer everything in one single cable. So Dell... PLEASE, give us a fix for this issue 'cause this is really something that is keeping me and other users from enjoying our computers entirely.

Same problem on my new XPS 15 :( Intel Display Options says it cant extend or duplicate. Nvidia Display Options doesnt give me much to work with. Its a Intel HD Graphics and Nvidia 420M GT with Optimus function. When trying to connect my HD Projector, which works on an older HP I have, it recognices it with the right name, but there is just a verry wrong picture and colors on my projector.

Royalpalnes, is your issue that your screen is blue/yellow... can you see the image at all?

January 18th, 2011 12:00

Depending on the resolution I can see the picture, but it is like 16bit colors. Trying 800x600 I can see the whole screen, but with 1920x1080 it only shows some of my screen.

It does work with a LCD monitor on HDMI, and my old XPS works on the projector with HDMI, so there is something about the combination of my Optoma HD20 projector and the Intel HD Graphics or Nvidia graphic card.

On 1920x1080 it shows a little part of the image from the top of computer, the rest is outside the projectors area.

If I go down to 800x600 it shows everything inside the area the projector projects.

The projector also remembers bits of what was projected before I connect the computer, for example my TV signals or a different computer. This only happend with the new XPS. This is when I try 1920x1080, if I use 800x600 it doesnt.

When it is shows just a bit of your screen through the projector, does it show the full width of the projector with the image stretched, or is it showing the in the middle with a border at each time

I updated the computers drivers last week and it seems that solved my problem using HDMI on my projector :) Just needed to wait until the new versions of drivers where available.

Pay no attention to DELL's customer support, like all customer supports... IT'S NEVER THEIR PRODUCT'S FAULT... On the other hand, our issues aren't even related except in the way that they both suck (i have an ATI video card, you have Nvidia... and we both have the same issue, problem in common... DELL) LOL. I do have a possible solution for you, if when the Nvidia card is running you get a picture... then check if there's a way to turn off the GPU for low performance. In ATI there's something called "Power Play" and what it does is just switch from one GPU to another whenever you change from battery to plugged-in or viceversa. Check inside Nvidia's configurations if you see a feature that has the same use as ATI's Power Play and either turn it off or just set it so no matter which state you're in (battery/plugged), it's always using the Nvidia GPU. I would also recomend for you to google a little 'cause your problem is one that i've seen millions of times while looking around for a solution to my issue. Hope this helps you with your XPS. :emotion-21:

What drivers exactly did you update? because i've updated everything on my computer everytime something new comes-out and i still can't get any output out of my HDMI port (no video and no audio). I will appreciate ANY help since this is a really frustrating issue for me.
