I am Arun here. My Sys is Inspiron 8K with ESS maestro Audio Card. All my drivers are latest from the Dell site. I had recently tried to use microsoft USB dual strike game pad. I also faced the same problem of no auto recogintion of the game pad. Even if i try to load it thanksfrom the gaming controller thru Control panel, the last messageI get is that --"Your Gameport or Gameport drivers are not configured correctly. Please consult Device Manager". The device manager shows no game port in either 'sound vedio and game controller' or 'USB controller' .
The microsoft knowlwdge base says that ESS maestro sound card drivers may not allow games port. Thee ESS maestro site also says that generic drivers may help on systems other than DELL !!! .
But why should it not recogoize USB controller? This problem seems to be COMMON on this forum.
Has Dell given any response to this yet? It would seem to me that there would be an easy work around... I'm having the same problem and know two other people who are dealing with it as well.
