Processor Fan
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop, running Windows XP
After running a diagnostic, it was determined that my processor fan was running at 4821 instead of the normal 2150. I am thinking of replacing the processor fan, I also have a problem when trying to play videos, either from a DVD or Media Center, the videos stutters and is all jiberish.
I was wondering if the fan running constantly high had anything to do with it.
Before I spend cash for a fan, I want to know if there may be another problem causing this video problem, if so I think I'll just buy a new one since the fan alone costs 199.00 including labor.
Thanks

Replacing the fan probably will do you no good ($199 is crazy, where did you get the price from?). Try cleaning the fan and heatsink with compressed air to remove dust. How much load is on the CPU when it is running at high speed? Did this start happening recently or was this how it always had been?
I don't know about the Inspiron 9300, but the Latitude D610's fan always seems to be running fast because of the way the BIOS is. Both of my D610s did this even if the CPU load was under 20% and the fan would still be whirring away at high speed. On the other hand, my D620's fan sometimes goes to high when I'm running a VM, but other than that, it's always slow.

The price was given to me by Dell.
I also noticed during a diagnostic that the heat capacitor was running high, the temperature was 200C higher than normal

Both the CPU and GPU fan for the 9300 can be had for MUCH less than $200. They're tiny little things and take no time to replace. I recently did my GPU fan under warranty. Not sure how much the fan was because I didn't have to pay for it. Strangely enough, they charge more for the GPU than the CPU fan. Almost identical, but GPU fan is smaller.
Try eBay or Impact Computers.
