Processor Upgrade and BIOS Upgrade

Hello. I'm thinking of updating my current processor of 2.4GHz P4 to something higher, but I was wondering how high I could go with an Inspiron 1100? The motherboard is Socket 478.

Also if I upgrade I'm probably going to need to upgrade my BIOS to support Hyper-Threading, and if so, how?

Inspiron 1100
640 MB RAM
2.4GHz Pentium 4
Windows XP
Phoenix BIOS

Thanks all!

Aye, thanks. Guess I'll just save up for my custom whitebox.

I believe that the fastest processor is a P4, 2.6Ghz.  Hyperthreading, I believe, is not an option.

My hubbie is a BIOS engineer with Phoenix Technology, so I ran this by him. He said that you have a desktop motherboard in your laptop, and the CPU is as fast as you can get. Hyperthreaded ones aren't commercially available at this time. Basically, you would experience an unfortunate thermal event with you system if you were able to upgrade. Sorry. He is wondering what areas of performance you are disatisfied with, there may be other options.
