Random keyboard keys not working
I've had the Dell Inspiron 1440 for nearly six years, but this is the first time I've experienced an issue with the keyboard. The y, g, h, v, n, and m keys are completely unresponsive no matter the pressure applied to them. Neither the keyboard or any other part of the computer have been subject to any recent physical trauma, and the spaces around the keys have been cleaned out with a toothpick, leading me to believe that it's a connectivity issue. I've been using the on-screen keyboard, but it's impractical for regular use. Does anyone have any (preferably inexpensive) fixes for this? I'm sorry if I haven't included enough detail; I tried to keep this brief, because, you know... broken keyboard and all.

You can check the connection underneath the keyboard or replace the keyboard with one here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3AN1179903. However both require taking apart the laptop.

Hi Alopax,
The keyboard probably has failed. As advised by balong48, you could try reseating the keyboard cable and check. If it still does not work, then the keyboard needs to be replaced. If the replacement keyboard still does not work, then I would suspect the keyboard controller might have failed, then the motherboard needs to be replaced.
You could also order the parts through this link - bit.ly/1Zbg4zT
Find the link for the service manual - dell.to/1UyqHGi
Personally, I would you suggest you to invest your money on a new machine if the motherboard needs to be replaced, as the system model is old and will not be compatible with newer technology.
