Random shut down

I have Inspiron 700m with Microsoft Window XP Home Edition, 1.80GHz, 512mb RAM. My system will shut down sometimes while I'm on it and sometimes when it is not is use. I don,t play games on it at all. I tried the trouble shooting advise for the power cable and the battery but the same thing continues to happen. I'm starting to thinking maybe it is over heating and shutting down for that reason. Please Help! Mike

Make sure you have good circulation around it. I keep my lappy on a cool pad with fans. That helps a lot . Also, I use the air canisters of compressed air about 1 time a month to get anyt hgeave dust out for better circulation. Hope that helps!
