Boot to the floppy, get to a DOS prompt, then type the name of the .exe file (something like I38-A0x.EXE where the A0x is the version) and add the switches /forcetype /forceit. That should do the flash.
That error comes because you are running the boot process and it knows the BIOS is presently a Latitude BIOS and it complains. As I said, after that message comes and you are back at a DOS prompt, type I38-A17.EXE /forceit /forcetype and then hit enter and if you have a battery and AC connected, it will put the Inspiron BIOS in place of the Latitude one.
As to the best BIOS for what you have, see what features the CPtC, then the CPiR, then the 3800, have and how the motherboard you have matches, then get that latest BIOS.
Let's try for a new motherboard. What do you suggest? Buy from Dell? ...if so, how ? ...or is there a cross reference for a new motherboard from places like newegg.com? I cannot seem to find a place to buy them on the Dell site.

***Processor Microcode Update Failure***
The revision of processor in the system is not supported.
I can hit F1 and it will run for about 8 to 10 minutes then shut down. Any suggestions?
The model is Inspiron 3800 and I am not sure of the processor right now, I put in a motherboard and it says the bios is Latitude CPx version A11.
450MHz INTEL Celeron II processor
I think I am to flash and upgrade the bios ???
Thank you for any help,
Robert

I received an error.
"Error! This utility does not support this system"
I am using I38-A17, should I continue anyway, or look for another flash?
Thank you very much,
Robert

I did it several times, and received an error message in a red box.
Cannot use a "Inspiron 3800" BIOS in a "Latitude CP tC/iR"

Is there a bios that will work, support the processor, and not harm anything?

I would investigate which were the newer, more featured notebooks, the CPtC/CPiR or the 3800/CPxJ/CPTs. The CPtC/CPiR may not support all the features/drives the 3800 did. I do not know, but it is something to think about.
