Reformatted, didn't back up

Yes I did it all wrong because I didn't back up my drivers.   I'm a newb and all those things that come to your mind.  With that said please come to my aid.  My other laptop won't connect to the internet.  Audio is also down.  I've run across many posts about getting the drivers I'm missing but which ones are they??  In device manager I have the little yellow !!!!(terds)!!!  I'd appreciate any help given.

Really can't criticize as there was a time we were newbs too.

You need to begin by figuring what devices you have.  If you have the inventory sheet that Dell sent you when you ordered the computer you should use that to help, but you can also begin at the first page of this site, look at the upper left and find the Warranty Information link, click it, and on the next page click Warranty Status.  Click the tab marked Original System Configuration, put your service tag in the box (Please don't put it in one of these posts as it leads to deletion of the post), and read off what Dell thinks they shipped.  You may also get a clue by going to the Device Manager and seeing what sorts of things have yellow caution marks on them (though all I usually get there is Unknown Device).  In the Device Manager you may find things like Unknown VGA compatible device, which in this case gives you a clue you're looking at a video adapter.

After you have sort of figured out what you have, go to the lower left of this page, click on Drivers and Downloads, and follow the directions to locate the page that has the drivers for your particular computer.  Dell puts the drivers for every configuration that they ever shipped.  That is why you need to know a little about what you have because most of the files will not apply to you.  Once you have accomplished this you should be able to download one by one and install them.  One thing you must keep in mind; the chipset installation utility must be either the first or second driver installed.  The only thing that goes ahead of this one is the Desktop or Notebook System Software (whichever type of machine you have).  The DSS or NSS is usually found under the heading of System Utilities in the drivers page.  The remaining drivers are not that critical with regard to order of installation, but Dell recommends that the Video, Network, and Sound adapter drivers be installed in order after the DSS/NSS and chipset.

A note for the future; if you would like more detailed help you need to tell us a little about your system when you post, such as computer model, operating system, amount of memory, and other such things.  No service tag numbers, order numbers or other details that apply specifically to you.  This is prohibited by the Terms of Service (to read click on that link above).
