refurbished laptop

well I went to exchange my laptop for a second time because of a mysterious beeping under the keyboard. the guy from dell told me the best that he could do was sell me a refurbished laptop. He assured me it was a brand new laptop, never used. The only thing wrong with it was that the person cancelled the order and it was moved from one box to another to make sure all the parts were there. Is this true? I always thought refurbished meant used.

It could be totally true or totally false. Yes sometimes customers cancel the order before it is shipped and since once the order is placed and the PC built Dell does not restock the PC or the parts from it so they sell it as refurbished. But it could also be a PC that was shipped out, opened by the person it was order by, used and returned for any number of reasons. This type of unit would be used, at least to me.

You never know which of the two it is.

But I will add that I bought two 4000 Inspirons refurbished - My daughter's was a cancelled order and mine had been registered to someone so it was in the field.  Both came looking brand new and packaged as brand new.  I couldn't tell the difference between the two.  I know this because the Premier site used to also show owner info so I used the Service Tags and found out the info.  Can't anymore.
