reloaded operating system...driver problems

I had to reload the operating system (XP) on my daughters Inspiron 8500. This resolved all the original problems, but now we are having other (different) problems. It seems to have wiped away all the software and drivers that came installed when we bought it and the cd with "drivers and utilities already installed on your computer" does not seem to be helping. I finally got it to recognize the modem using device manger but we still cannot get the audio to work…any ideas?

Service tag = JB6T33

Sorry, typo on the service tag..it is JB6T331 purchased in summer 2003...

I am assuming that these drivers are on the cd of "drivers and utilities..."? I have not reinstalled all those drivers...just a the one for the modem...I will give it a try...thanks!

I tried the service tag that you gave but it came back as invalid.  Is it brand new (just got it) or do you live outside the states?

Anyway, you will need to install these drivers:

Dell Notebook System Sofware (Critical OS updates) - Install this first
Intel Mobile Chipset - Install this second
The video driver that corresponds to the video card that you have - Install this third.

The following can be installed in any order.
Dell QuickSet (for the volume lever above the keyboard)
Audio drivers Sigmatel Stac
Modem drivers depending on which one you have.
Alps Glide Point/Stick Pointer (drivers for your touch pad)

Note, you must download the file and actually run the file by double clicking it from within Windows Explorer.

Did you actually "Install" the drivers that were on your Drivers/Utilities CD?
