Removing Dell Software

I just bought a 9300 laptop online.  I have heard a lot of Dell software comes preinstalled.  When I get the laptop, I plan to FDISK the harddrive and do a clean install of XP.  I tried to contact Dell but since I do not have a service tag yet, I cannot ask them any questions.

A few questions:

1. Does anybody know of any problems with the re-installation of XP that may occur?

2. How will this affect the warranty?

3. Anybody know of any reason not to remove the Dell software?

Thanks for a quick reply...Kingfish

I am also awaiting my loaded out 9300, and I plan to get rid of all the XXX software LOL,,,that should not effect warranty but I would at least wait the 21 day return period, to make sure that is the laptop you want to keep,,,

If you manually reinstall XP, your warranty will be unaffected - it covers the hardware, not the software.

That said, if you do this, the Symantec restoration partition will be rendered useless once you manually reinstall, if that's a consideration.

Its less the dell software and more the 3rd party junk like aol, musicmatch, paintshop, etc. Some of the dell software, like quickset and the solution center have their uses.

Thanks for the advice and the quick responses!

Hopefully my 9300 will get to me as quick.
