"Sandy Bridge" processor and Laptop?

Earlier this week, Intel officially unveiled  its next-generation "Sandy Bridge" processor architecture, marking a significant performance improvement, especially for notebook computers.

Does anybody know if any Dell's Laptop become available soon with the above CPU.?

I ask this because I read it on another forum that another window based computer has released one with the above CPU. I could mention the computer name if I am not breaking the code of forum rules and regulations.

These are being announced today - no doubt major manufacturers will announce products shortly.  How long before they ship, no one yet knows - it'll be a while.

You can bet Dell has some models in the development stage with its manufacturing affiliates, as do all the others.

This is yet another major platform shift for Intel - new socket, new chipsets, etc., - so if it's what you want, wait for it.  You will not be able to upgrade current systems when these processors arrive.

It suggests we may see as early as in Feb 2011.

Perhaps - but the lead time on brand-new models is often more than a couple of months.  Also bear in mind that early adopters of new platforms do the bug-checking.

It's a safe bet that since Intel only began making chips that are corrected this week, that they're NOT in any current system just yet.

The video switching system all depends on nVidia - not Intel.  Intel isn't supporting the technology in any way, shape or form.

I could see the latest XPS is available for purchase : services_N00X7M06

No one can be certain if it is bug free. However is the chipset affair resolved. The above has a chipset HM67. Will this second generation sandybridge CPU with capability to switch between Intel Graphic and the 3GB Nvida GT555 GPU has an improvement in battery life?

Hi EJN63,

I could find the Dell's latest XPS 15" Laptops with the following specification from UK Dell's site:

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Processors
Intel ® Core TM i7 2820QM (2.3GHz/8MB cache)
Intel ® Core TM i7 2720QM (2.2GHz/6MB cache)
Intel ® Core TM i7 2620QM (2.7GHz/4MB cache)
Operating System
Genuine Windows ® 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
Genuine Windows ® 7 Professional 64-Bit
Genuine Windows ® 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
Memory
Up to 8GB dual channel DDR3 memory
1333MHz standard with i7 processors

Chipset
Intel ® HM67

Graphics
NVIDIA ® GeForce ® GT 420M with 1GB graphics memory (standard)
NVIDIA ® GeForce ® GT 435M with 2GB graphics memory

Does the above from Dell, I wonder have the

1.Latest Chipset?

2.Switchable graphics between the Intel's intergrated and the Nvidia [Has Nvidia enabled that facility to be switchable between the integrated and the dedicated Graphics]?

3. Can if one wishes on a later date replace to the RAM to DDR3 1600 0n the laptop with i7-2720QM &  i7-2820QM Intel processors?

I would greatly appreciate your expert opinion on the above three questions.

Regards
