Screen + aspect ratio vs screen resolution

Hi, I'm feeling really dumb but I don't use this laptop often and can't figure out how to change the aspect ratio.  Have changed the resolution but still have distorted photos on the screen.  Can't find the answer in the online manual and need to get ready for a projector photo presentation next week and this is the laptop it needs to be presented on.  Can't find a place on the outside to adjust the monitor from widescreen to a normal aspect. Can anyone help me?  thanks, ml

In order to have the correct aspect ratio, the screen resolution should be set to it's "native resolution", the resolution described in the purchasing documents. A screen resolution lower than the native but in the same ratios (V & H) will also display correctly. If you can't find the native resolution, go to Display Settings and it is the highest ratio available on the Resolution slider (right click on the desktop, select personalize and then select Display Settings).

Thanks for the help.  I did manage to find the correct resolution and aspect ratio.  The problem is that some of the users of this computer have been using it for wide screen display while those of us who prepare things for projection need a normal aspect.  I will have to see if there is a way to set things up so it can be a one click job.  Most users don't have many computer skills.

Thanks again.   Kangaroux

You could set the computer with you as the Administrator Account and the rest as one or more separate standard accounts. Then, the separate accounts would be able to set whatever properties they want, and not affect the other(s). You would password protect the Administrator Account so that no one else can get in and change things.
