Hi Viswam,

Thank you for the response. Both the behavior mentioned in your post are normal. Since the system responded fine in Safe Mode, it indicate towards a possible video driver issue. I would suggest a clean re-installation of the video drivers. That is, uninstalling and re-installing the video drivers. Here are the steps:

  • Open Device Manager (Start -- Control Panel -- Device Manager).
  • Expand the tab for Display Adapters and right click the video card.
  • From the drop down menu, select “Uninstall”.
  • Ensure to check the box “Delete driver software for this device”.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Once the drivers are uninstalled, re-install the latest drivers Video drivers
  • Restart the computer and check the functionality.

Please reply with the findings.

Hi Viswam,

It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. May I know the operating system installed on your computer.

Try updating the BIOS and the Video drivers for your computer and check. Choose the operating system installed your computer to download and install the Video Drivers.

Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that:
*Battery is 10%> or >10% charged
*Battery charger should be connected
*No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected.
*All other programs should be closed and documents saved

Hope this helps.

Hi Viswam,

Thank you for the response. I would suggest you to check the system in BIOS.

  • Power off the computer.
  • Restart the computer, press F2 key on the Dell logo 4-5 times.
  • This will take you to the BIOS screen.
  • Once the system is in BIOS setup, try removing the AC Adapter and plugging it back in to check if you experience the same issue.

Alternatively, try to the same steps in Safe Mode:

  • Power off the computer
  • Restart the computer, tap F8 on Dell logo 2-3 times
  • This will take you to ‘Windows Advanced Boot Options’
  • Choose ‘Safe Mode’ in the Advanced Boot menu (use ‘up’ or ‘down’ arrow keys to highlight the option, press ‘enter’ to select)
  • When Windows finishes loading in Safe mode, perform the same steps and check if you experience the same issue.

Please reply with the findings.

Hi Appu,

As per your suggestions i checked the laptop in BIOS and Safe Mode.

  1. BIOS
    1. When i Power ON AC Adapter the screen gets dim (1 or 2 % of brightness decreased)
    2. When I Power OFF AC Adapter the screen in normal as usual.
  2. Safe Mode
    1. There is no change of the screen when AC Adapter ON/OFF.(No Blank Screen)
