Hello Lsiy,

I would request you to run the Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics to check the functionality of the hardware components installed in the system. Run the test and check if gives any error code. Note down the error code and update me with the same, would let you know the next course of action.

You may also refer to this video on how to run the PSA Diagnostics: http://dell.to/18woC5M

Awaiting your response!

You'll need to replace the hard drive.

The system uses a relatively uncommon 1.8" parallel ATA drive - not a standard drive.  Note that the drives Dell has listed on its D430 web page WILL NOT work with the system.

You need something like this:

Hi Allan D!

I have done the ePSA Diagnostic on my laptop just like you told me to do. It gave a message saying :Error Code 0146 Mssg: Error Code 2000-0146 Msg: Unit DST Log contains previous errors.

I've been busy lately.Sorry for not giving you my reply on your last email.

If I took long to answer you again next time,I hope you will understand.

                   So,what should I do next?

Dear ejn63,

I am not going to spend that much money on a new hard drive. My laptop is old.Maybe getting a Windows Vista OS installer will make my expenses less, don't you think so?Something that will be compatible to my old existing hard drive which I think still works?

The physical requirements for the hard drive are what they are. It is nothing to do with the Windows Vista OS installer gibberish you are writing.

Dear leee488,

Thanks but no thanks to your advice. The link you gave says: Does not ship to Philippines. Well,I happen to live in the Philippines.

It was just an example.

You don't have to take the "advice' literally.

Dear ejn63,

Besides that ,my old hard drive works fine with it's former Vista OS before I switched to W7.So maybe I'm right that it has something to do with the W7 OS installer.Maybe I just have to find a compatible installer and one that is genuine.I think Microsoft shut it down because it's fake and has no activation key.Don't you think so too?

Dear ejn63,

What I mean is,compatibility wise,my old Vista OS worked fine before I switched to W7.It just stopped working and I have to re-install the Vista OS.Unfortunately,I don't have the original OS CD,so,I took chance with the W7 installer and that's how this trouble begun. But I'm quite sure the hard drive is good.

Is there a technician in the house?Hello Dell! I want some real Dell technician for a good advice.
