Screen pixelates, sometimes blinks, computer freezes
Hi all--
first off i apologize for any major typos I may miss. I'm using my wife's laptop and the keyboard is way different from mine.
Anyway-- I have a Insp8500, winXP home, 40 gig HD, 1GB memory. It has had memory slots replaced, a hd replaced by dell due to manufacture defects.
And recently, now that it is no longer under warrenty, the machine experiences this pixelation of the screen- such as a red dotted line the length of the screen...then more pixels will turn bright green....or a spot will go blue. Then, sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes, the machine will blink to a black screen for a short time (few seconds) then come back, and the pixelation will be really bad to the point I can not recognize anything ont he screen. Then it'll just freeze. no warning, no more blinking, no errors..it just freezes. This has been happening for a week now. At first I thought the screen may be going bad...or the vid card. But why does it freeze this way? zI tried a clean install of winXP and it continues to have these issues and now I get a error from windows with each start that eventually crashes the computer. Any help is appreciated. Thanks all.

First thing I would try is updating your video drivers, and if that doesnt fix it, I would try using a slightly older driver than the newest. If however that doesnt fix the issue, I would talk to DELL about getting a new video card.
I know you said it was no longer under warrenty but it might be needed.
That's all the input I can give.

Hi Ryan~
You described my problem exactly! (pixelates/blinks/flashes/freezes) I also have an 8500, and Dell had to replace my hard drive about 8 months ago. Did you get the problem fixed? Did you buy/install a new video card, or what did you do to fix the problem? I would love to hear that you had success (and be able to learn from your experience)!
