Find an external monitor to try - if it shows the same fault, you likely have a faulty mainboard. If not, try reseating the ribbon cable that runs between the display and mainboard. If that doesn't fix the problem, you'll have to have the display panel repaired or replaced.

System model? Age? Does the same fault show on an external monitor?

Ok thanks for the help. I'm not great at computers but that looks easy enough for me.
