Are you running any virus protection software on your system? If not I would definetely invest. You can download a free trial version off of the Norton website. I'd definetely do a full scan of your hard drive now before it's too late.

I was getting these kinds of errors also after upgrading my RAM. I bought a 256meg stick from Crucial. I've since discovered that the RAM was causing all kinds of problems. After removing the RAM and putting in the original Dell provided RAM I have not had any lockups or problems.

By any chance, do you have Crucial RAM in your system or have you added non-Dell RAM?

I have been getting the same thing. I have yet to figure out what is causing it. I just close it and go on. I have the factory memory in mine (256MB Dell RAM), so it's not just the Crucial RAM like someone below mentioned. I imagine you can turn off Error Reporting if you really didn't want to see that. I have virus software running (Norton Anti-Virus 2002) and do not think it's a virus. If anyone figures out what is causing it email me, Link_983@hotmail.com I have not noticed any problems from this other than the annoying popup each time I boot into windows.

I ALSO have an XP machine with a 20GB HD and 256MB Dell Ram, AND bought mine back in October.

Same here. 8100 with 512 MB RAM factory installed. I either get that message on startup, or a few times per day I get a SERIOUS ERROR , then a crash, with the nvidia as the cause. Then I submit to microsoft and i get the email reply that "there was an error in your error report. due to an error, we were unable to process your error report."

I also can't stay connected to the internet via wireless even though all of the other machines in the place are staying connected.

I am coming over from Apple so all of this is just a bit of a drag.

I too am getting the exact same error on every startup. I
also get the fatal error crash every once in awhile as reported
in another thread. I am waiting for DELL to call me back
right now, If anyone figures this out please e-mail me I will
post anything I find.

I got the same error warning and crash after installing UDF Reader driver provided by buggy MS XP. After uninstalling that driver, the problem is gone. The funny thing is XP gave me the same warning report one more time after reboot.

Besides Crucial RAM, you may want to check new drivers installed. There are a lot of discussions about drivers provided by Dell or MS or original manufactures. Some works and some don't.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I just installed a 256 meg chip from Crucial part number CT32M64S4W7E and guess what as soon as i booted up i got
the Serious Error message. I then removed the Cruicial chip and reinstalled it and have not seen the Serious Error message . I have booted about 6 times and played games also. So far so good.

Dsong, do you use a Netgear wgr614v4 wireless router?  I have had the same issues, without finding a solution.  As far as I can tell, when I put the computer on standby and am using the wireless router, then I get the error.  When I plug the cable into the back of my computer and standby, it works fine.

If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.
