Setting to Max Performance?
I am setting my Inspiron 5150 to max performance (via dell quickset) but it always shows operating at 1.59 Hz...Am I missing anything? Please let me know what I need to do.
Thanks.

Yeah, I am having the same problem with my 600m. I have a 1.3 Ghz Pentium M, but when I set my computer at maximum performance it stays at 600 Mhz. After getting no where with Dell support (DO NOT CALL DELL SUPPORT for this issue, that don't have a clue what is going on, you will waste your time), I played around with the settings in the power management. There is a setting called "Always On" that worked for a while, and still works some of the time. I still have problems switching from Maximum Battery to Always On, it still runs at the processor speed of Maximum Battery. I have also had problems with it running at 275 Mhz when my setting was at Maximum Performance. That makes me wonder if SpeedStep is running the way it is supposed to run.
From what I have heard from other people who have a Pentium M with SpeedStep, they are able to have it on Maximum Performance and have it stay at its maximum processor speed. And when they want to switch to Maximum Battery, it will jump down to the slower processor speed and jump up and down accordingly based on how much you are running. That is what will happen if Speed Step is working CORRECTLY.
From what I remember reading in an forum from about 2 years ago, XP doesn't allow you do control the processor speed, while 2000 and ME will. The fellow that was running XP did a clean install of Windows and didn't install any Intel updates and it seemed to work after that. I would think though that Intel and XP would have come out with some sort of solution for this matter. I know of the patch available, but it isn't doing jack for me, and neither are the "Award-Winning" Dell Technical Support Representatives.
I am going to do a clean install of Windows, and see if it helps any. Though I really do not want to, so if anybody knows of any procedure that can rectify this problem, please post a message, as I am about to throw my computer across the room.
