Shutdown Issue

Hello Everyone,   I'm having a very interesting problem with my Dell Inspirion 8600.  About a week ago I went to turn on my computer and for whatever reason it did not seem to want to startup.  The indicator lights would turn on, stay on for a moment and then go dead.  I figured I may have a dead battery on the computer but none-the-less, once I plugged the computer in I was still having the same issue.  After a few minutes of trying it finally turned on.  Once the computer had booted up, about 5 -10 minutes after startup, I had a white Dell screen flash on the screen which read:   'You have inserted a module into the D-Bay attached to your docking station, but this module is not supported by the D-Bay.  The module will not be functional if left in place. You should remove it now.'   After a moment of flashing this on the screen the computer would shut down.  At first I thought it might be a software problem, but this particular laptop has a duel boot with both Windows XP Professional and Mandrake Linux.  The same problem was occuring with both of these OS's.  I do not have a docking station.  Which is why I am wondering if it might be a problem with the MOBO.  I did run the diagnostic test on the computer and everything with the motherboard came up ok.  I ran tests on the other parts of the computer and did run into errors with the DVD +_RW.  On my next boot I tried removing the drive, but it did not seem to help.  Hoping someone on here might be able to shed some light on the subject before I start tearing things apart. When you try to boot, does the caps-lock LED flash 10 times (screen blank, fans and CDdrive spinning) and then just dies?

No, the caps, scroll and num lock keys will all stay on briefly as if it were to be booting properly and then just turn off along with all the power, hard drive and charging lights.  I did read previous posts about the flashing caps, it seems a bit different then that, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the motherboard going bad.  Just seems a bit strange to me that the motherboard diagnostic test are all passing.  I originally thought it could be something with the PC overheating, but unfortunately the bios does not show the temperatures of the CPU and all fan tests are passing as well.  It appears that it could be the DVD drive or I thought maybe the touch pad, both are now failing with the diagnostic tests.  I'm gonna continue to do some searching, but I'm open to any additional ideas.   Thanks
