Just be aware that if your keyboard or mouse has any extra features, you may not be able to use them. Once you install the software for your keyboard/mouse, it could overwrite the touchpad/trackpoint of your laptop. So you lose capabilities of the touchpad/trackpoint. It all depends on the software. Some can do it while others can't.
But all the basic features will work without a problem.
I use a Logitech Multimedia KB and a Microsoft Optical Mouse. I did not install any drivers that came with it. All the hot keys on the KB function perfectly and the mouse is flawless. Both touchpad and buttoms on my 8500 work as well.
Get the KB/mouse and simply plug them into yor usb port. You should have no problems

I just bought an MS keyboard, but didn't load its drivers for fear of losing any notebook features. Anyone have the answer on this?
