single laptop key
Hello. My kids' laptop is Inspiron 1545, basic model, bought in 2009. A "p" key does not spring back like the other keys, feels mushy when pressed. It also does not consistently show the letter on the screen. Quick tapping on the key will have 15% misfires. Slower tapping (2-3 per second) gets consistent results.
Do I need a cleaning under the key? If so, do I snap open the cover? I am scared of forcing it too much.
Or do I need a new keyboard, because "p" key troubles mean the keyboard is at its end?
If single key or the keyboard, do you have reliable aftermarket to recommend?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Thank you for the reply. My problem is the beginning itself, that is, how do I remove the key? Do I pry up and snap off the key? Is there certain direction that the key should move for removal? Thank you in advance.

was just googling for some more information but couldn't find any description on how to remove the key.If I had a broken key on my inspiron I would just grab the key with both of my hands and pull it off and should Murphy's law intervene: a new keyboard is not the end of the world.....

To remove the key I just got a nail from each hand under the key and pried it off. Actually i caught my daughter who was 18 months doing this a few years ago. Had to have the keyboard replaced because they got really loose from her popping them off several times.
