Slow Processor Speed for new System???? Need HELP !!!

Hi there,

1 TW038 ASSEMBLY..., DVD+/-RW..., 8X, SMALL FORM FACTOR..., HITACHI LG DATA STORAGE..., D MODULES...

1 MM156 BATTERY..., PRIMARY..., 85W, 9C, LITHIUM..., SIMPLO

1 YN681 KIT..., SOFTWARE..., OVERPACK..., WXPPSP2, COMPACT DISKETTE W/DOCUMENTATION..., ENGLAND/ENGLISH...

1 HN338 ASSEMBLY..., BASE (ASSEMBLY OR GROUP)..., DISCRETE..., 128MB, D830

1 GF120 ASSEMBLY..., CABLE..., COAXIAL ..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4, BREWSTER/COLOMBO...

1 NF964 BRACKET..., SUPPORT..., RIGHT..., METAL..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., BREWSTER/COLOMBO...

1 XM140 ASSEMBLY..., PALMREST..., FPRDR-TPAD, D/F

1 UN494 KIT..., SOFTWARE..., OFCSBE-2K7, ENGLAND/ENGLISH..., DELL AMERICAS ORGANIZATION...

Summary : It has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7100 at 1.8Ghz with 2MB cache.  When I start it up, the Processor runs at 785MHz and then finally builds up to 1.18GHz.

It is lacking to achieve the proximate 1.8GHz speed it was built for. How do I fix this issue and what are my alternatives?

Thank you.

Cheers,

The CPU is running as designed - it will adapt the speed dynamically to the jobs being done.  It isn't designed to run at full speed all the time - you can force that using the power management scheme, but realize that doing so will severely shorten the lifespan of the internal components in the system - the hard drive, mainboard and RAM will all see a significant reduction in their lifespans, due to the added stress from the additional heat generated when the CPU runs flat out all the time - think of it as effectively running your car's engine at redline continuously.

Well said ejn63.

This is perfectly normal.  I have a 2.4ghz, quad and it usaully checks in around 1.5 or so, unless the speed stepping (I think that's what it's called) requires more, then it kicks it up.
