Slow Processor Speed for new System???? Need HELP !!!

Hi there,

 

Can someone tell me the methods to increasing my Dell Latitude D830 Processor Speed with system specification:

Summary : It has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7100 at 1.8Ghz with 2MB cache.  When I start it up, the Processor runs at 785MHz and then finally builds up to 1.18GHz.

 

It is lacking to achieve the proximate 1.8GHz speed it was built for. How do I fix this issue and what are my alternatives?

The CPU is running as designed - it will adapt the speed dynamically to the jobs being done.  It isn't designed to run at full speed all the time - you can force that using the power management scheme, but realize that doing so will severely shorten the lifespan of the internal components in the system - the hard drive, mainboard and RAM will all see a significant reduction in their lifespans, due to the added stress from the additional heat generated when the CPU runs flat out all the time - think of it as effectively running your car's engine at redline continuously.

Well said ejn63. 

This is perfectly normal.  I have a 2.4ghz, quad and it usaully checks in around 1.5 or so, unless the speed stepping (I think that's what it's called) requires more, then it kicks it up.
