thanks! that's what i did. you know i received this computer last year may 1st at my doorstep and since having this computer the hard drive has been replaced twice and the operating system was re-installed once. the cd/dvd drive has been replaced twice and now i called dell about another situation i was having with my computer that my cd/dvd drive wouldn't automactically start and dell couldn't fix and told me that i had to reinstall the operationg system so i told them again about the smart status failure and now my hard drive and motherboard is being replaced because the last time the guy who replaced my hard drive couldn't believe that dell didn't put an order to have that replaced because there is something in this computer that is conflicting with it to cause these problems. when i got this computer i got it with vista 64 bit because windows 7 wasn't out just yet and since i been having these problems, dell talked me into upgrading to windows 7 so i did then i started to notice that i was having problems with my dell dock and called dell about it and it came down to where they told me that the dell dock is not compatible with windows 7 64 bit so they uninstalled it and installed a 3rd party program called object dock which was good but limited to what you can do with it unless you pay $20. well on vacation with wife and her parents i saw is new computer, just like mine, xps windows 7 64 bit, but his is the studio xps 1600 series. so when i got home i uninstalled the object dock and tried to install the dell dock and it would not install saying could find the network dell/delldock/swe and theirwas a fatal error when trying to install so i call dell and they installed it for me free of charge because when i has the software contract they told me dell dock would work with the windows 7 64 bit so he installed i guess some missing links and when i got the dell dock i remember that the one program in the dock called the dell pc check up i use to run all the time ran it and that's when i noticed the smart failure. called dell about it, payed $130 for the software 1 time incident fee and it turns out the hard drive is being replaced. but in all, i knew i should of returned this computer from day one because when customized it i added the iolo dell pc tune up program for a year and after having it for 2 weeks it told me that i had to purchase the program because it was going to expire and i spent every day one the phone with dell for 1 month, fighting with them and it turned out that the email address i used to purchase the computer was used to activate the ioloand since that address was already used it conflicted with it and cancelled it and i couldn't do anything about and either could dell. then i went for the refund but since it was more than 30 days, they wouldn't give me the refund and i yelled at them telling them that i been on the phone with you for the 30 days trying to get this resolved. i even call california where this company is located and they couldn't do anything for me.

The fix is to replace the hard drive - the bad sectors mean the drive is failing.

a replacement drive is the only option at this point.
smart drives have error thresholds, smart drive errors come when the ammount of errors exceed this threshold.
once the threshold is exceeded the drive will not work properly and eventually will corrupt itself.
all in all best way to solve error is backup all your data installe windows again along with all your dell softwares on a new hard drive.
