What do you mean "need the receipt from the place you bought it"? If you purchased it from somewhere other than Dell, you should know if the warranty was tranferred to you, as required. If the service contract wasn't legally transferred, you're out of luck. Go to Dell Support and put in the Service tag and find out if you're covered. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/en/details?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

It's the 7 character AlphaNumeric that is labeled Service Tag...

My service tag is on the bottom of my 2500; try looking there. This thread might help you with your adapter issues.

I would say yes. This is pretty much the case on most systems... Usually Blinking Amber means powersupply

Lol. Not at all, as long as you don't replace a hard drive you have nothing to worry about loosing information. Just contact dell let them know what the issue is and what you have done and that you researched the problem and this is what you believe it to be so you can avoid the troubleshooting steps all over again!

Oh thank Jove! I have too many things to lose in that laptop.

Will they give me a new motherboard? Or must I purchase my own? If so, how much do they cost?

And thank you for your assistance ^_^

Well, now the adaptar seems to be okay. The little light is now green. However, the laptop won't evn turn on!

So, I suppose this is now a motherboard problem?

If you are under warranty call Dell support and they will replace free of charge. If not under warranty I can not give you a set amount due to I am not a Dell Sales Rep and I do not have the exact update amount but if you can deal with the wait time of some support you shouldn't have any problems... Glad to help

Did you follow the steps other posters gave you to determine if the computer is under warranty?
If it is, Dell will replace whatever needs replacing no cost for labor or parts. They will pay for shipping to their shop and back to your place.
If it is not under warranty, you need to buy an exact replacement from Dell or anybody else.
I have heard the cost is about $400. But you would need to inquire.

If the tag is missing from the bottom then you can go into BIOS setup and read it from the first page.

How am I supposed to know if I am under warranty? I can't seem to find the service tag.. Perhaps it fell off or something.

I know you can get it by letting Dell find it on the website, but the laptop doesn't even turn on.. So now what?

Um can you explain that to me?

Plus how can I do that if the laptop won't even turn on? :smileysad:

I can tell you if you provide me with your service tag or you can go this way:

1. Go Here: http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&cs=&l=en&s=gen

2. Click on My systems and Per. on the top bar

3. Enter your service tag and such and should provide you with the information needed
