Sound not working, error code 41
I have an Inspiron B130 and use windows xp, and the sound completely stopped working. I ran the diagnostics check and it isnt a hardware problem. Under "sounds and audio devices" in control panel, it tells me there is no audio device. On device manager under "Sound, video, and game controllers" there is a yellow exclamation mark by "Legacy Video Capture Device", "Media Control Devices", "SigmaTel High Defintion Audio Codec", "Audio Codecs", "Legacy Audio Drivers", and "Video Codecs". When I open properties on all of them i am told that the driver works but it cannot find the hardware (code 41).
I tried uninstalling everything with a yellow exclamation mark and restarting then reinstalling, removing sigmatel from add and remove programs then reinstalling from the dell support page, I reinstalled Dell Notebook System Software, Intel Mobile Chipset Driver, then the Sigmatel audio driver in that order several times. When i got on google and looked up error code 41 the only topics i could find involved the cd/dvd drive or video and those were easily fixed by regedit, so I was wondering if there was something i need to remove in that? This problem started a month or two ago, but i never bothered trying to fix it because i had no need for sound.
If I left anything out (I know I probably did) please tell me and i'll post it asap. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, they'd be greatly appreciated! :smileyhappy:
Thank you in advance,
Tyler
