Subdued audio

Windows 7 Professional, 32 Bit OS- VOSTRO 3300

I have a Vostro 3300, 1 year old. Ever since i received it, I have had trouble with the audio being very minimal. In all honesty 90% of the time one would not be able to hear anything unless you put your ear close to the speaker. I am aware that this is a business model and that this model has only a single speaker.

I had run the diagnostics seen on this forum and could hear the speakers play the audio quietloudle & clearly and now do not have any doubt that the hardware is just fine. I belive i may have the latest drivers as well, although i am unable to verify this myself (i was infomed this by a service engineer). Even with the headset on, while the sound is much better- meaning audible- the volume is seldom loud enough to reduce it from its maximum setting on the system & player. I do feel there seems to be something thats draining the sound and I feel this could be a windows related issues. I run Windows 7 32 bit OS.

Can someone help me to set this problem right please.

Prem, here are 2 suggestions that might help -- no guarantees.

> Open the Sound properties, and on the Playback->Speakers->Enhancements tab, enable 'Loudness Equalization'.

I don't have a screen shot of the Enhancements tab, but you can see in the picture below where it is.

> If that doesn't help, then try using the Windows generic audio driver instead of the IDT driver (the IDT driver is the one that you would normally have installed, and if it is then the Sound tab will have the word "IDT" on it as in the screen shot). Instructions for doing this are in section 6 of the Audio Driver FAQ.

Hi Jim,

Your solution defenitely seems to have had a positive impact. The volume output is much better although I still feel that this can still be better. I will also try using the generic windows driver and update you.

Any suggestions / advice please????

Just the same ones I gave earlier. Check "Loudness EQ" or try the native Windows audio driver.
