switch from touchpad to mouse & back

Question

I usually use my small retractable kensington travel mouse with my Inspiron 600m laptop. However, in a few limited situations I need to use the touchpad (going through airport security). How do I disable the mouse function and use only the touchpad and then switch back to my usual preferrence of using just the mini-mouse?

Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated!

I have a 5150 and generic USB mouse that was autodetected as a HID compatible mouse.  Both it and the touchpad work concurrently unless the I manually disable the touchpad under the Device settings screen in the mouse properties window.  Perhaps the software that came with your mouse disabled the touchpad this way when installing.
