Synaptic drivers mess my scroll mouse

The new synaptic drivers causes my mouse scroll button to reset to 1 every time!!!

This is very irritating. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Faridzadeh,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

If your external mouse requires additional drivers, I would suspect that these drivers are conflicting with those for the touch-pad.  You should remove the drivers for both pointing devices and then reinstall those for the mouse that you wish to use.

I get the same behavior with Synaptics 7.5.7 driver (the newest one).

Even without a separate mouse driver/utility installed for your USB mouse, the Synaptics driver will:

1. change the number of lines to scroll to "1" (Control Panel->Mouse->Wheel)
2. disable "Use Smooth Scrolling" in Internet Explorer (Tools->Options->Advanced)

You can change thes settings, but upon restarting Windows, the Synaptics driver automatically changes it back.

Very annoying. Has anyone found a workaround?

absolutely the same problem. Found out the problem is not with the mouse (tried logitech traveller and MX300). Both have same behavior.

I run my mouse w/o any Logitech drivers and face the above problem. If I install the drivers the scroll option does not exist in the mouse menus anymore. Very annoying.

Please share a solution if you have one. I tried fiddling with Registry settings.. didnt help. Next I am gonna try installing the Logitech drivers and then edit the registry. Will post a solution if I find one and expect the same.

Thanks.

i have this same problem w/ my intellimouse explorer.

this seems like it is a bug w/ the touchpad drivers, and needs to be dealt with. anyone know how we get dell to address this issue?

You need version 7.6.4.0, found here:

Does the new Synaptics driver play nice with Microsoft Intellipoint software? (to have button customization and additional features for your Microsoft Intellimouse)

I have a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical, with the extra left and right buttons.

I do not have IntelliPoint installed. From what I know, they still conflict with each other, as you can only run one set of drivers at a time.

You can try installing one over the other...but I doubt you will have much luck.

I'm on an Alps touchpad now, and the Alps driver works great alongside Microsoft Intellipoint software. No issues whatsoever, and both the Alps touchpad and Microsoft USB mouse have full functionality. There's pretty much a 50/50 chance my next laptop will have a Synaptics touchpad again, so I'm curious whether the latest Synaptics driver can work hand-in-hand with Intellipoint like the Alps driver can. Let me know if you're able to give it a try.
