System Crash - Help Required Urgently

Hi All,
My laptop is Dell Studio 1558 with Windows 7 as the OS.
The issue is that now when i try to turn on the Laptop, its go'n to "Windows Error Recovery" with following options to enter:
"Launch start up repair"
and
"Start windows Normally"

I tried both the option at two different times but its not fixing the error or starting windows normally and its stuck at "Starting Windows" screen.

Then I tried to use F12 - Boot option- Diagnostics for which I am getting the following errors:

"Error code 0142
Msg: Error Code:200-0142
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful
Status:79"

Now when i try the same option [F12 - Boot option- Diagnostics]
"Error code 0146
Msg: Error Code:200-0146
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test log contains previous error(s)

What should I do to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Tiju

Hi Tiju,

Welcome to the Community. Error code 0142 means a faulty hard drive, and needs to be replaced. If you have an active warranty, or need a quote for the HDD, send me a private message, click on my user name, add me as a friend, and send me your Name, Service Tag and phone number.

Thank you.

Hi,
So will I be able to recover the data stored in my hard drive?
Am asking this because when I tried to Launch start up repair, its attempting repairs and showing that Startup Reapr cannot repair this computer automatically.
Then its showing:
"View diagnostic and repair details"
and
"View advanced options for system recovery and support"
When i use "View advanced options for system recovery and support" the following system recovery options are provided.
Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, Command Prompt and Dell DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup"
When I use "Dell DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup" its providing the following option:
Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files(recommended) and Select other System Backup and more options.
Selecting "Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files(recommended)" it scans and ask me to give a path to save the backup.
Can i use this option to backup my entire hard drive data to an external hard drive?
Thanks in advance,
Tiju

It's highly unlikely you'll be able to do a complete backup.  BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE, remove the hard drive, mount it in a 2.5" USB external case, and attach it to a working system.  Make a copy of the data you need to recover before you go further.  You can then try making a full system image if you wish - but make the backup FIRST.  Not doing so is an invitation to losing everything on the drive.
