This is the best you can get right now for futureproofing. Even the XPS170 can't really compete in non-3d apps to an E1705 because it's single core.
The WSXGA+ screen, while low-res compared to the WUXGA, is more practical for a gamer because games will run much smoother at the native res, therefore look crisper.
Memory is a good way to save $$$. If cash is really important, downgrade the memory and upgrade aftermarket. www.newegg.com and www.zipzoomfly.com have better prices on the memory sticks. If you'd rather save time, keep it as is.
If you REALLY REALLY are on a tight budget, you can always try to wait out a deal on it. Dell occasionally does 30% off deals and $500 off deals. I'm not sure how much the current promotion is saving ya so only you could decide if its worth waiting.
Thank you. I had thought of buying memory but do not know anything about working inside of a laptop/notebook. I didn't want to risk messing it up. Also, is this Geforce Card mxm as in can it be upgraded later; as well as the processor? So this will work well with most games at good settings as is?
i dont believe theres going to be anything to upgrade the 7800go to althought i think some guys down at notebookforums.com are trying to get a 7800gtx to fit in there.
Wow, did you get the warranty and accidental damage coverage with that? I got the same computer but I believe you got the processor one up from the one I ordered. I paid $1640.00 but got every warranty the offered included in that price. I had no coupon, I just worked the sales guy the best I could. I did get the 256 GeForce card with it as well. I'd like to know just how much they will allow a customer to pay for their systems.

Don't really know what you mean about the above question. You can pay it off immediately, if you have a loan with DPA/Other credit card, or pay the minimum rate each, and every month.
Or, if you are asking, how much of a loan they will give from Dell, than its up to your credit rating. Same with a stand alone credit card.

That is so sweet i got the Inspiron E1705 but unfortunatley i bought mine right when they released it and they werent having no savings or anythign on it except a free 1GB RAM upgrade (which they didnt even put in it) and i got the nvidia 7800, only single core, and just regular screed,60GB HD, and i paid 1500, and your only paying over a 100 more and your getting over 500 more worht of upgrades. I wish i would have waited til they did that offer becasue i use mine for soe games and i could really use that duo proccesor and that 1GB RAM they promised me but didnt put in it, so that is a really good deal man
I'd like to know just how much they will allow a customer to pay for their systems ". I was trying to figure out just how low the salesperson would go on the price of the e1705. I paid 1640.00 out the door, but I've read that others paid just a little more and received the next higher processor.
