the worst support

among all pc\notebook\laptop support, dell have the worst reputation, honor

many (why`s) can asked here!!!!

but the most important is the driver support.

i do searshed many dell models, and there is only one os version support, and it`s windows7 64 bit

and now ..... whyyyyyyyyy

did dell enforce us to use windows?? not just that, else windows7, also not just that, also windows7 64 bit

so... if you buy a dell notebook, you should install windows7 64 bit, or you have to shot it

thanks dell for that many choices you granted

thanks a lot

you get our trust with your broduct support....

Dell typically offers drivers for all of the OS's they sold with a particular machine.

I do not doubt what you are saying, but if the only drivers they have for a machine are Windows 7 64 BIt, then that is the only OS they sold with the machine.

If you had bother *actually *looking, you'd see that there are some laptops laptops offered in Windows 7 32-bit and FreeDOS and Linux besides the aforementioned Windows 7 64-bit. And the reason for the 64-bit is so that the OS can access more than 3.5GB of RAM.

Dell is under no obligation to provide drivers for any OS other than what was sold on that laptop.

so in OS became old or u upgrade it to a new version, you should let your laptop down or you have to work on old OS for ever...

what they mean by that...?

all notebook companies respect their custumers choices and support them with drivers for many OS`s... else lover dell..

additional information: I work in computer company and my customers verey bother of that bad support... so i decide to let all dell product beside and sell another markets.. like ASUS, TOSHIBA,...etc.

I don't know anyone who considers Window 7 an 'old' operating system. And, even if you do consider it old, the reality is there is nothing mainstream that is newer, so of course Dell does not have drivers for it.

That is simply not true. Look up recently released machines and their driver support.  I just looked up Lenovo and of their newer computers, all they have drivers for is Windows 7.... I would bet many of the large computer makers are the same way.

did you tried with ASUS, TOSHIBA, ACER,MSI,...??!!

At your requesrt, I just looked up Toshiba... Their latest laptops only have Windows 7 64 Bit drivers.

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?modelFilter=C655D-S5210&rpn=PSC0YU&category=&selCategory=2756709&moid=3025641&os=&ct=DL&selFamily=1073768663

Asus did appear to offer XP drivers.

Acer did not give any options for OS when choosing to download their drivers, so whatever you get the machine with is it, at least on the notebook I checked.

The fact that Acer and Toshiba do the same thing makes your complaints against Dell lose a little credibilty.

Regarding Dell and your old operating system comment. Yes, I said Dell TYPICALLY only offers drivers for the OS the machine is sold with. There are many examples of them providing drivers for a new OS if that comes out within a reasonable time after the computer is released. Implying that I said they never offer updated drivers is deceiving. The fact remains they are offering drivers for the latest OS, the OS that the machine was purchased with. If that OS was not desired, don't buy it. Seems pretty simple to me.

If this is a huge issue for Dell and they lose many customers over this, perhaps they'll change their ways, but since others computer makers do the same thing (limiting your choices of what you buy), I doubt they, or others, will. The cost would be too high, so adding that cost to everyone for people who want to use some obscure OS, along with everyone else, would have to pay more...  The makers would lose customers that way, probably more than they would lose from peope like you.

It will be someday... and dell will stay on "typically offers drivers for all of the OS's they sold with a particular machine." as you said before

okay, I tried, and they was better faraway than dell.

and a little bit of models have been supported with only win7... but both of x32 and x86.

we all know that x86 more efficiency than x32, but for whom?? its so boring to write all the story here, but so many people are compelled using at least x32 for many reasons.

also i tried many newer version and found all OS`s are supported

Asus did appear to offer XP drivers.

most providers supported old products with XP only becuase win7 couldn`t install on it.

Acer did not give any options for OS when choosing to download their drivers

i really confused about your researches

see http:/www.acer.ae/ac/en/AE/content/drivers">http://www.acer.ae/ac/en/AE/content/drivers

chose: notebook>ferrari>ferrari 5000 and tell me what you find because i found there all OS`s are supported with both architecture.

I`m now doupting about your browser or maybe your glasses too.

Hi,

Regarding the Toshiba link. Yes, there is a drop down for Windows XP.

Choose it. You will see there are no drivers available for it.

www.csd.toshiba.com/.../modelContent.jsp

Regarding Aspire, I chose the Aspire line, as that is there mainstream computer line. You will see for the current Aspires, they have no Windows XP drivers. ( I just double checked for the Aspire 8943G to be sure....

Also, I noted that you recommended the Ferrari 5000 to prove your point. That computer is 4 years old. Remeber in my previous post when I said, "and of their newer computers, all they have drivers for is Windows 7.... Note the OF THEIR NEWER COMPUTERS......

I stand by my statements. Most newer machines have Windows 7 drivers, not Windows XP..

In your post, you insulted my browsing ability, my vision, and y honesty. I will not argue back, but I will politely say an apology is in order.

again and agian, i saw three systems available in the drop down menu: win XP2\XP3, win7 32bit, win7 64bit.

please try another browser or let a friend try it from another PC before you answered again.

I searshed for that model but it`s not listed yet in the "Product Model", give me the link and i`ll find it there.

Also, I noted that you recommended the Ferrari 5000 to prove your point. That computer is 4 years old. Remeber in my previous post when I said, "and of their newer computers, all they have drivers for is Windows 7.... Note the OF THEIR NEWER COMPUTERS......

so you are confess that Acer supports more than one OS instead of the "OS's they sold with a particular machine"

I stand by my statements. Most newer machines have Windows 7 drivers, not Windows XP..

PLEASE, try to understand me, i`m not a windows enemy, all what i want is supporting both of x32 and x86, not only x64, cuase each one has specific users and specific purposes.

yes i do, but not as insulting, the right is "correcting" what did you wrote cuz  it broked down in my side and in my browsers. so I APOLOGIZE for insulting but not for correcting.

I am sure that it does show XP in that drop down menu. Did you read what I wrote? I said to choose Windows XP in the drop down and you will see there are no drivers for it.

Nothing I wrote was wrong. Toshiba does not provide Windows XP drivers for its mainstream recent computers, nor does Acer. Your corrections were actually the ones in error.

Regardless, I really have nothing to add to this thread. I've attempted to show you that other makers are pretty similar in regards to driver suport, but you choose to not accept that. Your call. I'm done here.
