This is just silly...
I have an Inspiron 1720. I bought it almost 3 years ago and fortunately have the warranty. It's been serviced again and again. I've been through a couple keyboards, 2 mother boards, memory, video card, screen and most frustratingly 4 hard drives. I'm having issues again and when I called Dell I let them know that when my warranty was up, I wouldn't be buying another Dell. I also jokingly said, "why don't you just replace this thing". And so they did. This restored my faith in Dell.
I was told it would be a refurbished model which means it's had 30 or less days of use on it. I was told it would be comperable or better than my existing system which at the time was pretty high end. I got my new system and I'm really pleased with it but noticed it didn't have a bluetooth. My Inspiron did and I was told I'd get the same or better. So I made the phone call. Dell will be sending out a tech to install thebluetooth. Great. They replaced my system with a Studio. Here's the thing, I really like the Studio but if I were to go out today and buy one that I spec out with the bells & whistles, it would be a $1,700 system. So I called Dell back up and asked the question, can you credit me for the refurbished model you sent me and just let me buy the new system? Wouldn't that be a win win situation? Right now, Dell is just out the system they sent me. If they gave me the credit, they'd be making a sale. Granted it wouldn't be the full price but they'd be getting money out of me where as I'm just sucking them dry.
This just doesn't make sense to me and I'm not sure who I could talk to.

That's just it. I'm NOT expecting a brand new system to replace a very used one. I'm so impressed with what they gave me that I want to buy this system brand new with bells & whistles. I just think they'd give me the credit for the refurbished one to go towards the new one and I'd PAY the difference.

I should add that Dell has gone above and beyond my expectations and restored my faith in them. I was just proposing something where they may come out ahead or break even. Right now, they lose and I win.

No, they won't do that. And it's unreasonable to expect a brand-new system in exchange for a very used one.

This is very encouraging news. I'm looking to purchase a Dell XPS studio 16 in the near future, so I been looking in the forums to see what tech support problems people are having with their laptops just so I get an idea of what to expect incase anything has gone wrong. I'm very please as to what dell did you for you. Now I can just fine some links on what people think of the XPS 16 laptop I can better make my choice.
Thanks.
