touchpad buttons not functioning
I have a 3 week old Inspiron 3520 laptop, and suddenly the touchpad buttons are no longer working. I can move the pointer but cannot click on things. A peripheral mouse works fine. I have checked the settings for the touchpad, and reset to default.

Hi babydoc1,
Since you have mentioned you checked the settings of the touchpad, I would like to know if the Touchpad buttons setting in the Pointing Devices window is on as shown in the picture.

I would also request you to update the touchpad drivers from the link below:
http://dell.to/Y7l2yd
This is Win 8 Touchpad driver.
In case the issue persists, I request you run the test on the Touchpad. Restart the system and at the Dell logo keep taping the F12 key every 2 seconds. This will start the One-time boot menu. Using arrow keys select ‘Diagnostics’ and hit enter. This will run quick test without waiting for your input. To select a specific test, you can either wait till the quick test completes or press Esc. Next a list of test available will be displayed. Please select Touchpad and click Run test. Please reply with the status of the test to assist you further.

I am also having this issue with My Inspiron 3520. I went through the steps in this thread. The driver was the same as what I already had, I reinstalled it anyway. The one time boot menu diagnostics test didn't have a touchpad test listed. all tests listed passed ok.

Likewise. All Same symptoms, tests included, and I also refreshed the driver to no avail. Neither button works. But external mouse works fine. Looking for solutions, please.

Hi josephmperez,
I would like to know if it is only the touch pad buttons that is not working or even if the touch pad has an issue. In case it is only the buttons which are not working, I suspect it is a mechanical issue and it (Palm rest) may need replacement.
Please click on the link below to check the warranty of the system. In case the system is under warranty, send me a private message with the system service tag to assist you further. Please click on my name and click Start Conversation to send me a private message.

Service tag number indicates it is still under warranty until January 2014. I agree, it is buttons only that won't operate. Pad works fine. Am using an external mouse right now. <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed as per privacy policy>. I have toggled the buttons on and off in SW with Dell Control Panel applet to no avail, reboot included. All Dell hardware diagnostics were passed from F12 boot. Issue got more intermittent as time went on. Now LH button is totally inop. Where do I go from here to get it fixed/replaced?

what is the answer, my buttons on my laptop does not work either. The laptop is a little bit over a year old. The mouse and buttons work fine. I updated drivers installed driver on device manager and when the laptop started it automatic installs it. Any suggestions? I noticed all of the other questions on the buttons not working was never answered except this one.
thx
