Touchpad not working
The touchpad on my Dell Inspiron 7537 is not working. The cursor disappears, and the touchpad is not recognized. Sometimes when I start the computer the touchpad works fine until I type something with the keyboard - then it disappears again. When I look in Device Manager I can only see the “Dell Touchpad” if I click on Hidden Devices. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it, updated the driver, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and reinstalled Windows 10. After I reinstall Windows 10 the touchpad works for a short time, and then disappears again. I also replaced the touchpad itself. I have run out of ideas to try. Any suggestions?
Thanks - Kett

Scan your system for malware and if you have an anti-virus program fully updated ? Google >> Malwarebytes Free and download the free version, run a scan and see what it finds

I am using Norton Internet Security and have also scanned the computer with Malwarebytes and have found no problems.

jmbroc,
Have you gone into the trouchpad setting to configure the Touchpad?
Right click the Touchpad icon in the system tray.
Click Touchpad properties, this dialog box enables you to configure Sensitivity settings, Button settings, Scrolling and Zoom Settings etc.,
Update the bios as well.

Unfortunately the touchpad settings aren't available. The touchpad tab disappears, and there isn't anyway to get to the settings.
I have updated the bios. Still no luck.

Jmbroc,
Click the link below to install the chipset drivers first, reboot the computer and then download and install the touchpad drivers. Once you install them you will have the touchpad options.

Jmbroc,
Run the diags on the system/Touhpad to see if it comes back defective.
Launching ePSA
Tap F12 during startup
Select Diagnostics.
Testing Devices using ePSA
The ePSA starts running the quick test without waiting for user input.
To select a specific device to test, users can tap the Esc key.
. NOTE:
The Touchpad/Mouse will be non–functional when the test is in progress. This is as per design.
Also, try the steps below.
In the search box type Touchpad.
Touch or click Mouse & touchpad settings (System settings).
Look for a Touchpad On/Off toggle.
When there is a Touchpad On/Off toggle option.
Touch or click the Touchpad On/Off toggle, to toggle the touchpad on or off.
When there is not a Touchpad On/Off toggle.
Touch or click Additional Mouse Options at the bottom of the screen.
Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
Touch or click the picture of the touchpad.
Touch or click the Touchpad on/off toggle, to toggle the touchpad on or off.
Touch or click Save.
Upgrade to the latest BIOS from support site
Change the Sensitivity Settings for the Pointing Device from Control panel - Mouse - Device Settings - Dell Touchpad tab
New computers have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties.
Recommendation: Check for any touchpad issue when using the system on battery only.
If no issues exist, check by connecting the adaptor directly to electricity source, bypassing any surge protector, UPS, etc.
