Hi 42crl,
On a lattitude D630 these are the steps to disable a touchpad.
1)Using External mouse( Or key strokes if no mouse is available), go into Dell Touchpad Properties.
2)Go to the Device Select section and disable touchpad.
If you have any other questions please reply back .

I am running XP on my d630 and can't find the device select section or anywhere to disable the touchpad. How do I find it?

Welcome to the Community,
If you're not able to get the Device Select option(Control Panel,Mouse,Dell Touchpad) first install the Dell Touchpad drivers from the link below :
www.dell.com/.../latitude-d630
Note:Reboot your system after installing the above driver.
