Track stick can't scroll

I am using a Lattitude D600 with Bios A13. When I check the box to allow the track stick to scroll and apply the change, the stick locks completely. The touchpad is still operative though.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Have you tried reloading the touch-pad drivers?

Since the computer is brand new, I hadn't even thought of trying that. I'll give it a shot.

I reinstalled the drivers but the problem is still there. Any other suggestions?
