trouble when using Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0
Hello, (I'm french so please be indulgent with my english writting)
1/ I'm trying to restore my daughter's Studio 1735 to the original factory configuration with this tutorial
in fact it's the second time I do it and the second time I face the same issue when I'm asked the password on the page "system recovery options"
My daughter's firstname is in the user field and no choice else, I tried several passwords as 0000 **** 1111 but all are rejected.
This labtop has been offered to my daughter when she was 14 and I don't think the giver enterer a password.
Do you have any idea to go further in the restoration process ??
2/ I tried to run Dell Backup and Recovery manager...it failed..do have I to try in safe mode ??
Thanks a lot for your help :)

Hi anne34,
In case you want to reset the system to factory settings you may follow the steps given in the below link:
http://dell.to/18LZJ7j
To perform these steps you need administrative password. In case you do not have the password or have forgotten, the next option is to reinstall the Operating system manually.

Hello, thanks for your answer :).
In fact I tried late at night with my daughter's Windows session password and it worked. I didn't even imagine it could be the same password :)). So the reset is done now.

But now I face a new trouble : I didn't get DataSafe Local Backup installed after restoring completed and all Windows updates installed (I made a research within the whole computer) and on the Dell site on this page :
dslbchecker.datasafelocalbackup.com/dslchecker-en.html
after downloading the software ...that is supposed to be supported by Vista as written on the right bottom, I get this message when installing it :..."only supported by Windows 7 ..."
This labtop is a Studio 1735 with Vista Home Premium .

Thanks a lot for your quick answer :) In fact I don't understand several things :
1/ "Right-click on the program or executable." which one ? "DataSafe... ? because I don't even know where it as been put after downloaded.
I never use IE but only Chrome, Opera and Firefox and don't know where to search.
It's not in the "Downloads" Directory
2/ I don't understand how I coul get such a window with all the options because I get the message about compatibility at the early beginning of the installation.
This labtop makes me nervous for several days so I do appreciate your help :)

I didn't install any anti-virus untill yet neither chrome. So I'm surfing prudently with IE.
And in fact I realize that the download could have failed.
I'm trying once more to pass Easy Step 1 on the site page where to download DataSafe... here :
http://dslbchecker.datasafelocalbackup.com/dslchecker-en.html
First I get the message about compatibility only with Seven then a WinZip Self-Extractor opens but stay on "please wait " for a very long time
And do you have any idea about why DataSafe is not installed on the labtop after restoring to the original factory installation ??? I shouldn't have this issue with downloading it now. Does it come from the age of this labtop (purchase in 2009) ? From all the Windows updates I made ??

You have to right click on the file you just downloaded, so, yes DataSafeLocalBackup_Basic.
Right click on the file, choose Properties, click on Compatibility tab, and tick "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
Choose Windows Server 2003 from the drop down list. As said before some programs require Administrator privileges to run correctly so also tick "Run this program as an administrator"
Click "Apply" and "ok"
Then install the program as normal
Either re-download the application and this time pay close attention to where Chrome saves the file (You should see the file downloading in the bottom left of your screen, click on the little arrow and choose "show in folder").
For future reference go into Chrome settings and you can change the location for where all files are downloaded to.
Scroll down to "Show Advanced Settings" and click on it
Scroll further down the page and it will show you where your downloads are normally stored.

If you used Sujatha K's advice and link to restore your system to factory settings, then you have formatted the drive and therefore wiped all your personal files and applications off the hard drive. If you didn't make a back up of your files / programs (using Dell Datasafe), then that's why you no longer see it installed.
The recovery partition only holds the original operating system.
I'd stick to Chrome if I were you...Internet Explorer is rubbish :emotion-4:

This is your luck day....if you cannot find the application on the disk, I found you a link that bypasses DSLcheck

ok for DataSafe not installed..but does it means that when purchasing this labtop there was no software to make the restore DVD ??
Because that is what I'm hardy trying to do, for this DVD has never been made.
I made another trial with Chrome : always the same message..." only for Seven" I'm getting mad :emotion-12:
I've suddenly an idea : I've the installation CD and DVD given with the labtop including one "Application ..Already installed on your computer"..is DataSafe Backup on it ? I explored the CD but it's not recognizable ??

Looks like DSLcheck is preventing the installation....even though it is supposed to be compatible with Windows Vista. Maybe Dell bypass this when they preinstall the software. I received a Dell Resource CD (Drivers & Utilities) when I got my laptop and Dell Datasafe local was on that...so if you have one too then hopefully it will be on there.

ok I do a hard disk diagnostic and then use the Applications CD hoping to find Data Safe on it because it's difficult to know that only with an exploration of it.
Do you think it's on it ??

That link is working fine for me...the 1st step is already completed (Passed).
Can you confirm that when you click on the link Easy Step 1:Passed is shown?
Just click on the blue link in step 2 and the file starts to download straight away
The sourceforge link i gave you is for a program called 7-zip which will extract the installation files to a separate folder. This is just to make it a bit easier for you to locate the setup.exe file enabling you to run the installation in compatibility mode.
I've never used that to diagnose my Laptop, I usually boot to F12 and use the diagnostics in there. Or I use "My Dell" (Dell Support System)

Download this app downloads.sourceforge.net/.../7z920.exe
Download Dell Datasafe from the link I provided above (if you already have then just locate the file)
Right click on the downloaded file (DataSafeLocalBackup_Basic) and choose 7-zip > Extract to DataSafeLocalBackup_Basic/
A new folder called DataSafeLocalBackup_Basic will be created
Open that folder and then open the folder 9.4.67
Right click on the file called setup and run in compatibly mode as discussed earlier.

I can"t download it from here dslbdownload.datasafelocalbackup.com/dsldownload-en.html
I'll try from the souceforge link if I don't find Data Safe on the Applications CD
In the meanwhile..did you ever use Dell PC Diagnostics ? because it's been twice I make the hard disk diagnostic and at the end no result no information ..only the initial page where to choose which kind a diagnostic to do : www.dell.com/.../frdhs1 and this message : "a diagnostic category has been indicated and the concerned apprel doesn't exist " !!! :emotion-42:
