Turning on my computer

When I press my power button on my Inspiron 600m, the green lights on the top of the keyboard flash several times, but the computer does not turn on.  The Dell support people told me to "clear the NV RAM" and to "flash the BIOS."  I have done both of these and am still having problems.

Also, when I put the computer into standby mode, it will not power back up.  I put it in standby, then I press the power button and nothing happens.

Any ideas? Do I need to get Dell to fix this?

Sounds like we have a very similar problem.  I have not found an answer yet either.  However, I have found that if I leave the computer alone for 30 minutes or so, it will boot.  Not really a solution, but a temporary fix.  I have also found that I can go for weeks without seeing the problem at all.  Hopefully one of us can find a more permanent fix.

My computer was doing the same thing, and it went from bad to worse. One time when I shut it off it would not turn back on, until hours later. So here is this desktop computer only about 8 months old and it is sending me messages infoming me that I was running out of memory. Then one day it just blacked out and went off. I could not get it back on. After looking at the manual, I checked the diagnostic letters in the back A B C D. It stated that the diagnostic letters are supposed to light up to the color of green. Well the only letter that is green is A. And B C D is yellow. I cannot get the computer back on.

Hey BNARatbert, it's the same exact thing for my laptop. Also, just today I powered up my laptop just fine, then turned it off, plugged it in to the power adapter, and turned it back on, and the lights just blinked and didnt power on. I had to wait a bit, and finally worked. Any ideas on whether it's something to do with the power or the motherboard? I found this forum that had a brief post on it, on sharky forums?
