Two Latitude E6540 Problems (Touchpad and Fan)

I have a brand new Latitude E6540 with all driver updates installed, running Win 7 64bit and bios A08.

There's two annoying problems.

1. The fan seems to stay on high all the time, even when no programs are opened or used on the laptop.  It's using the default power settings, and I've fiddled around trying various other power settings and it doesn't  make any difference.  Only when the laptop is on battery power does the fan slow down.  When it's plugged in, the fan is on high almost all the time (when it first boots the fan isn't noticeably on, but then it eventually comes on and stays on).

2. I cannot get the touchpad to stay shut off.  It keeps turning itself back on randomly.

Thanks for any help.  I've looked around and found that both these issues are documented already on various threads but I haven't  found an actual solution.  Does anyone know if there is a solution for either of these two problems?

Thanks, - Brian

It doesn't look like anyone else ever replied to this- I've got the same frustration regarding the touchpad. To disable it, the method is supposed to be:

Reinstall the driver for your touchpad, see this link ; http://dell.to/HO57xb

After reinstalling try doing the FN+F5 again. If no go, the other way to disable touchpad is thru BIOS. To enter Bios, restart the computer, on Dell Logo, keep tapping F2. Under Post Behavior Tab, select Mouse/Touchpad option then choose the desired option.

Personally, I can't understand why Dell doesn't create a direct solution w/o reinstalling. They should come from the factory with this feature. I hate touchpads and rarely use them. The best solution would be move them to the right under the number pad of a 6540, or auto-disable when a mouse is used/detected.

Hope this helps...
