Unable to install "Notebook system software"

Hi I have reinstalled my Dell inspirion 9400 and I have reinstalled all the drivers from the support drivers list
but I have some serious problem to install "Notebook System Software" the error is that this application is
no appropriate for windows (I have window xp pro SP2), and I am sure that it cause my battery to be unrecognized
(all other peripherals do well), hope you can help me.

Thanks in advance

Did you install the chipset driver first?

perhaps try the previous version if compatible with your system.

I have tried it too, like I said I have inspirion 9400, I have tried 9300 and 8600,
but with the same unsuccesful result.

I think it is some special new utility that was installed on my laptop before reinstall.

I have tried now and I got the same message:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and

Microsof Windows applications.

Ok, great, it helped me to install notebook system software but the battery is
still refused to be recognized.

the latest bios is A02.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R127920&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_9400&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=10432&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=2&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=170177

you can check your bios version by tapping F2 at startup and the version your running will be on page 1 of bios setup.

I would strongly suggest that if you plunge for updating that you do it from a pure dos enviroment(floppy or cdr) and not from your hard drive.

Also, if you still have warranty on the laptop,  I suggest you get dell involved asap as it could be a m/board problem.

I have checked the BIOS it is version A01.
I don't sure I want to update it, but does it means that
I need to install another drivers or chipset ?
