Undocking my computer

Does anyone know what could possibly be causing my computer to come up with an error message that says my computer is still docked when we have removed it from the docking station?? When we turn the computer on and remove it it seems to work but if we remove it while the computer is turned off and then try to start it it gives us an error message that says it needs to be redocked. This has just started happening as we have had the computer for a year now and have undocked all this time without any porblems

We are having the same exact issue.  We have an Inspiron 8600 and have just spent the last hour with DELL SUPPORT.  DELL's solution is to "back-up all of your files, re-format your hard-drive, reinstall the operation system and reinstall all of your software.

Good grief..sounds like a little bit of overkill to me.  There must be a better way to do this.  Does any one have any better solution?

I also have had docking problems, and I DID reload everything from the ground up.  It didn't help.  Then a few days later they magically stopped.  That was maybe three months ago.

Two days ago they started again. I reinstalled Windows and it hasn't helped.  Argh.  I think something is going on with the Dock>Laptop connection or the dock itself that is causing this.

No problems at ALL when it is not on the dock.
