Unknown USB Controller
My Inspiron 1100 kept having a question mark on the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller after installing a fresh copy of Windows XP Professional. I've tried looking for the driver on the driver disk and on Dell's website but couldn't find any. It already recognized 2 of the controllers and installed the drivers:
- Intel (R) 82801DB/DBM Universal Host Controller - 24C2
- Inet (R) 82801DB/BDM Universal Host Controller - 24C4
What on earth is this additional controller about? I do not have any USB devices plug it at all.

yes its 100% to do with either the chipset driver, and Service Pack 1 (or 2 now)
windows xp didnt recognize USB 2.0 in its initial release. you have to install service pack 1 or 2 to get USB 2 support. then after youve installed it, reboot, and it will still show that yellow icon with the ! mark. right click over it, and click uninstall, and then in the ACTION menu above click "scan for hardware changes" this will install the drivers, and you will be in business.
post back if it works/doesnt work
