unmountable boot volume error
Dear All,
My daughter's Inspiron E1405 is failing to start Windows XP SP2. It will not boot into safe mode either. We get the "unmountable boot volume" error. I managed to find the Windows OEM installation disk and gotten it to boot from the CD to run the Recovery console. CHKDSK reported that the disk was not dirty. CHKDSK /p reportes that it found 1 or mroe errors on the volume, but I am not sure what to do next. Can anyone offer some advice, please?

Before pronouncing it fixed, boot to the Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup) and run a full (extended) hard drive diagnostic. Such errors are usually warnings of a drive beginning to go bad.

Running CHKDSK /r seems to have repaired the problem. Successfully booted into windows safe mode and then did a system restore. So far it seems to be working okay.
