Same problem, Dell Support splash screen comes up and warns me to Update Graphics card software on my Inspirion 1150 with Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller. It has the 8/20/2004 6.14.10.3889 driver already. I recently made the mistake of installing the Windows update recommended optional Intel update that causes the sleep problem. I uninstalled that about 4 weeks ago and reinstalled latest driver on Dell site at that time. It has been working fine in last month . Although I now have two graphics controllers showing in my Device manager. Both say same thing.
Now this Dell Support update wants to install something and apparently it is the same driver version I already have, just with a new name:
Video: Intel 915G Graphics Controller, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.6.14.10.3889, A01 File Name 1432KA01.EXE (5 MB) File Date 11/24/2004 File Format Hard-Drive Intel(R) 82915G Express Chipset Family Production Version 14.7 Dell Version A01 Intel Build 6.14.10.3889
Maybe what’s new is that they tagged A01 on the end. The date is different 11/24/04, and the splash screen at install seems to refer to some chipset family I don’t have in the hardware (Intel® 82915G Express Chipset Family) Also installer from Dell indicates it’s for Dimension 4700, 4700C and 5000 and Optiplex GX280 and SX280 and apparently only foreign languages and I don’t know but I go ahead and install it, and it seems to work, but after restart, Dell Support notifies me it in available as a new download.
So what’s the deal, is Dell pushing the wrong download or is it not going to install for some other reason?
Made the mistake of trying to install Intel's new drivers for the Intel(R) 852GME Chipset . They had an admitted bug that the screen would not come back on after sleep. It is supposedly fixed in the new release Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver Production Version 14.11.0.4277 from 3/17/05.
The problem is still not fixed despite the release notes claims. Makes the laptop overhead when on standby in a bag, and then protection circuit shuts computer down
There is a 4/29/05 download for driver n.n.n.4308 I will try next
New intel video driver xx.4308 seems to work ok. No blank screen and refusing to wake up . It has done it once or twice but certainly not consistently.
