While my Belkin Card seems to work Fine with My Inspiron 7000 there appears to be a whole slew of problems using this card with a 2600, 8000, 8100,8200
Microsoft Doesnt want to deal with these issues either.
Exceeding the maximum USB bandwidth during the enumeration of a new device exposes a lack of protection that is related to device removal. This problem is caused by an interaction between the USB 2.0 chip set and certain motherboard design elements. Under certain PCI bus signaling conditions(Can we say IRQ Conflict or IRQ NOT SHARING), the USB 2.0 controller may produce damaged USB packets that could be misinterpreted by USB devices as different packet types. This behavior is dependent on motherboard design, and because of this, does not occur on all computers that use USB 2.0controllers.
If you go into the device manager there are several things to do.
NOTE: This is my Inspiron 7000 with XP SP1 so if you have a 2600 it will be slightly different.
Click on the USB ROOT HUBS and UNCHECK the box that says Allow windows to shut off this device to save power.
If you fail to turn this off your drive will become lost. With a PCMCIA Adaptor installed there are 4 places to turn off.
Does anyone See something Wrong here. Its why I say IRQ problem.
Especially since the cardbus, video and all the usb devices are using IRQ 11
It could be that you are victim of a Defective Design just as the 2600 Owners are.
What CardBus Controller does the 8000 use???
The O2Micro OZ68xx CardBus bridge is notorious for conflict and resource problems. IF I am wrong DELL tell me what the solution is??? These parts were a known problem back in 1997.
I think the 2600's should be recalled and the board REDESIGNED.
The Belkin Cardbus USB2.0 F5U222 adaptor works FINE on MY Inspiron 7000.
All the USB ports work. CDRW and Drives Work FINE.
However I have an TI 1220 Cardbus Controller. The 2600 series seems to have a piece of junk O2Micro Cardbus Controller and that
Device seems to NOT BE ABLE TO SHARE IRQ'S.
If I'm wrong Dell then Tell me what is going on.
If your system has one of the following CardBus Bridge chips, you won't get USB 2.0 Adaptors from ANYONE to work Properly. These CardBus Bridge chips' burst mode transfer capabilities can't be improved. CardBus Firewire Addon Cards will Also exibit Severe resource and bandwidth problems.
I have a BUSlink USB 2.0 Cardbus It works perfecly fine with my external backpack DVD-RW drive but when i plug in my external 120 gig hard drive into it it comes up as an unrecognized device any ideas how to fix this issue would be GREATLY appreciated.

They also Suggest Service pack1 before dallying in USB 2.0

Write cache ENABLED would be UNSAFE

Microsloppy puts it this way.
