is this device a flash drive or jump drive? if so you can right click on it and in the dialog pop up box click on format to format the flash drive, however if this is already done and it works on other computers and not picking up on your laptop it could be a issue of what the last person said on the previous post before me

Thanks for the reply and suggestions. I have tried 2 different jump drives. Both are formatted and work in other computers and they also used to work in this one.

 

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

only other suggestion is to uninstall the USB ports and reinstall them so it can detect and open the media drives. be sure to have the USB software ready on the laptop or on a cd before you uninstall it.
