Hi

I would suggest you to set BIOS to default settings. Please follow the below mentioned steps:

1) Reboot the computer

2) When prompted during POST, press the key to enter the setup screen.

3) On the System Setup screen, press the key.

4) Press the key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.

Please make sure that the correct chipset drivers are installed.

Please let me know for further help

Thanks & Regards

I've tried resetting bios to defaults. Tried many different chipset drivers. No success in any way. I had same problem with a Dell N4110 and I searched til I found a chipset driver that was not listed on Dell website. Support for the new i5 and etc laptops are very little. Anymore help would be appreciated.

Hi

Thanks for replying back

I would advise you to delete all the USB root hub drivers from the device manager, Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.   If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Under device manager Right click on each and every USB controller that is present on the system and click on uninstall.

After that please restart your computer and check whether it’s working or not , in case if it’s still not working please download the chipset drivers from the below mentioned link :

http://dell.to/SYkjNs

I would also suggest you to install BIOS on the computer in case if it’s less than A15, from the below mentioned link:

Please let me know how many USB devices you are connecting with the computer.

Thanks & Regards

Hi

I require clarity on one question? Are you facing issues only with the Microsoft Mouse which you are using or are all USB devices are not working?

Please provide me the model number of the Microsoft Mouse? Have you tried to check if the said Mouse works on a different Computer?

please revert with results.

Thanks & Regards

It's not the mouse. I have a Dell 4110 and the mouse works perfectly fine on it, even on reboot. It's only the N5010 that does this. I'm almost positive that it's a driver issue, like a chipset driver or as pci controller. Dell's website is very vague when it comes to drivers on thier website on certain laptops.I have 4 other laptops and the mouse works fine on those also.

This problem doesnt just happen with the mouse. Any usb item plugged in when reboot or start up is inop. u ntil you unplug it and plug it back in. It's not what's plugged into it, it's the usb, it's the usb ports causing the problems.

My laptop is not still under wrranty. The motherboard was replaced after this problem was discovered. Same problem with this motherboard usb's. I really think Dell has screwed up on their support drivers for this model.

Prateek K

I have 3 Dell N5010 laptops. Win 7 Ultimate 32bit  and 64 bit loaded on them. All 3 laptops have same issue as the 1st one I purchased. After restart usb mouse not working Kingston USB flash drive inoperative until I unplug the device and replug it back in. It will then work until reboot. Loaded all drivers from drivers/utilities cd. In device manager I noticed that the usb's listed are named GENERIC usb. Maybe this has something to do with problem. I don't think Dell has the proper driver for the usb ports on these model laptops.
