user name locked

I have always had two icons on my desk top to show the users of the computer, one with my user name and the other with my daughters. for what ever reason my icon and name has disappeared leaving just my daughters, which says locked!. I have been unable to unlock her and get mine back. Any suggestions, I have a Dell Inspiron lap top.

What OS are you using?

Windows 7.  The icon is a basis square with the word Dell inside, with my daughters name below and the word locked under hers.

Thanks for your help.

Does the problem persist after a re-boot?

I found this answer on another forum:

You need to tap Function 8 several times as you power up the machine and select Safe Mode form the Advanced Boot menu that shows up. That offers login icons for all the accounts, including the system Administrator and, as you say, there's no password required for that account, you can get in and work on the other accounts to find out what happened to the missing one.

Let us know if it works.

Hi Darois69,

This looks like that the user account is been corrupted due to which the account is not showing up on the screen. If your daughter account is administrator account please login and you can recreate your account this is the only way to fix it.

In case it’s not an administrator account you may have to reinstall the operating system.

Note: performing manual installation will lead in losing all of the personal data.

Al,

Did it look like this?

If yes, then your daughter is logged in to the computer. If she clicks on her username, then types her password, she'll be logged back in. If the computer is shutdown or turned off, when she is logged in, there is a chance that any documents and works that she did during that session may be lost.
